March 7, 1958 - April 9, 2025
Colin David Bokovay, born March 7, 1958, in Edmonton, Alberta, passed away in Yellowknife on April 9, 2025, after battling cancer with incredible strength, dignity, and grace. He was surrounded by the love of his family in his final hours - his brother Kelly Bokovay and his three children, David, Sandra, and Michelle - as well as his beloved dog, Tilly. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne, his sister Susan, his father Willard,
and his mother Kathleen.
Colin proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 21 years as a member of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) and the Canadian Airborne Regiment. His military career included three peacekeeping tours in Cyprus, and he was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration as well as the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal in recognition of his service. Following his retirement as a Warrant Officer, Colin remained active in his community through the PPCLI Yellowknife group, the Royal Canadian Legion in Yellowknife, and as a member of the PPCLI Association. After retiring from the military, Colin continued working in the North, including spending time as a blaster at the Ekati Diamond Mine.
An avid outdoorsman, Colin loved fishing, hunting, and being out on the land. He was a man who
loved the beauty and solitude of the North. He was known for his sense of humour, his practicality,
and his appreciation for the simple things in life. Colin was a man who found happiness in small,
everyday experiences and the people around him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, May 2nd, at 11:00 am at the Kingsway Legion in Edmonton.
