Welcome back to Cambridge Bay, where it is the land of the Inuinnait, the land our ancestors left us to live and enjoy life in one Canada's most beautiful places in the world.
With spring coming, and change of seasons and weather, nature gives more life to carry on.
Cambridge Bay and area recently had its first spring blizzard with a fresh snowfall everywhere.
Extra daylight and snowstorms that bring fresh snow make travel on the land that much easier for our hunters as well as for those travelling to Kingauk, Umingmaktok and Kugluktuk. Inuinnait travel by snowmobile or boat to their original homelands to spend time with families and to camp to be home and the be in peace and quiet, calm and healing. We hope this tradition carries on for generations to come and that our youth, children and grandchildren will forever learn, love and cherish.
This year we have many more youth graduating from high school at Kiilinik High. Graduation ceremonies have been scheduled for Saturday, June 7. More stories and photographs will follow this very special occasion for our community of Iqaluktuutiak.
The Umingmak Frolics are scheduled for May 10-19 in Cambridge Bay. Plans are well underway to once again have festivities throughout that week. We usually welcome guests coming to join the snowmobile races from Kugluktuk. A committee has been set up to help plan our annual spring carnival. See you all there. Come and have some fun!
The ice road to Westarm is open once again. Big koana to Qillaq Innovations crew. Kids and families are enjoying the sliding hills and snowmobilers are riding along doing loops.
Happy Easter, everyone.
God be with you Son. Your Granddaughter Jade Tonokahak is the cutest darling!
