An Edmonton man is the subject of multiple firearm-related charges following reports of an incident of forcible confinement in Hay River.

On the evening of Feb. 18, local police received a tip that a person was being held against their will at a residence on Fir Crescent on the north end of town. Officers surrounded the residence with support from the Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, the Remote Piloted Aircraft System Unit, the Territorial Crime Reduction Unit and Critical Incident Command.

Nine individuals subsequently exited the building without issue and were brought into custody, including the alleged victim, who was unharmed. Officers then searched the residence, which led to the seizure of a loaded handgun.

Eight of the nine people detained were later released, with exception of 22-year-old Edmonton resident Ly Gabriel Galido, who is facing five charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unsafe storage of a firearm, and possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized.

Galido was remanded into custody following an appearance before a justice of the peace.

The RCMP's investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Those with information relating to the incident are asked to contact the Hay River RCMP at 867-874-1111 or Crime Stoppers at http://www.p3tips.com.
