Today is voting day for Canada's next general election.
In the NWT, voting hours are between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., according to Elections Canada. You'll need to vote at the location printed on your voter information card.

People who are incarcerated can also vote at their correctional facility. People who are homeless are also eligible to cast a ballot.
Those who are hospitalized on election day will be able to vote by special ballot from their hospital room. According to Elections Canada, patients will be advised in advance when special ballot voting will take place. An election officer will visit patients either by going room to room or by appointment and help them fill out their application. They can also help the patient cast their ballot, if needed.
Canada saw a record advance voter turnout this election, by about 25 per cent compared to the 2021 federal election, according to Elections Canada. An estimated 7.3 million voters showed up between April 18-21.
The NWT also saw an increase in turnout, albeit not as drastic. A total 3,631 voters took advantage of early voting, whereas only 3,499 voters did so in the last election.
The NWT has four candidates to choose from. They are:
- Rainbow Eyes for the Green Party
- Kelvin Kotchilea for the NDP
