Former Nunavut MLA Steve Mapsalak has passed away. 

Mapsalak represented the constituencies of Akulliq and Aivilik during the 2nd and 4th legislative assemblies.

鈥淚 was saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Mapsalak," stated Speaker Tony Akoak on April 17. "Mr. Mapsalak was an accomplished hunter who served his community and territory as a mayor, municipal councillor and member of the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board. On behalf of all members of the legislative assembly, we extend our condolences to his family.鈥�

The community flags of Naujaat and Coral Harbour will fly at half-staff at the legislative assembly in honour of Mapsalak's passing.
