It might sound cheesy, but one of the songs on Brenden MacIntosh鈥檚 latest album 鈥楶izza Time鈥� was actually meant for his wife at their wedding.

鈥淚t was really just for her, and then everyone heard it and the band was like, 鈥渨hy don鈥檛 we bring this to the band?鈥欌��

The song, 鈥楯essica,鈥� is named after MacIntosh鈥檚 wife. It鈥檚 one of nine in his latest album that came out April 13, and there鈥檚 a chance he just might play it at the Raven on April 27.

So far, the feedback鈥檚 been pretty sweet.

鈥淎fter all the work we put into it, it鈥檚 great to see people just listening to it and tell me how much they like it,鈥� said MacIntosh. 鈥淲e tried out some music videos this time around and one of them鈥檚 getting some pretty good attention so that鈥檚 really nice.鈥�

The video in question is for the song 鈥楯essica.鈥� With close to 1,000 views on YouTube, it鈥檚 become MacIntosh鈥檚 most popular video on his channel.

The success is nice but it鈥檚 not exactly the artist was banking on.

鈥淵ou just write art that you would like to hear and then you just kind of hope that people would agree with you, I guess,鈥� he laughed. 鈥淏ut playing live, we鈥檝e had good reception to certain songs, and that helped me figure which songs we need to record.鈥�

Playing live is something MacIntosh loves. He said it鈥檚 like a celebration that comes from time spent in the studio recording.

鈥淚 remember there鈥檚 one drum fill that I was stuck on for at least half an hour just doing over and over and over,鈥� he said. 鈥淎nd I just threw my drum sticks.鈥�

That bit of frustration was actually for another song MacIntosh has yet to release.

鈥淚鈥檒l keep that secret,鈥� he chuckled.

When it comes to writing songs, its important to follow one鈥檚 intuition, according to MacIntosh. There needs to be a middle-ground between not overdoing it but also to be consistently playing.

鈥淚t鈥檚 this give and take. You鈥檝e got to try to write, but wait until you get that golden nugget.鈥�

Despite the release of a new album, MacIntosh鈥檚 work seems far from over. He鈥檚 planning a mini-tour in Alberta and has some shows he and his band can鈥檛 announce yet.

It also sounds like there鈥檚 another album on the way.

鈥淐offee Break and Pizza Time are part of a trilogy,鈥� MacIntosh said of his past two albums. 鈥淚 want to start getting that final part of it.鈥�

And he has a larger goal in mind too.

鈥淢y dream would be to play at a festival where the crowd is so far you can鈥檛 even see the end,鈥� he said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 my dream.鈥�
